A Christmas Story
My favorite Christmas memory is the year I received a crate of Big League Chew. I chewed and chewed for the following month until my jaw was sore. The deep purple of my mouth rivaled the hue of Barney. My mother purchased the gum from Phelps Co. located it Omaha. It had to be hauled in on a flat bed truck and was stored in the basement. The magic of that Christmas will always be stored in my mind.

NY Times Reporters
By reading the reporters' bios and Q and A's, I was able to retain some valuable information. Chris Broussard, who currently writes for the New York Times, has made his career as a beat writer, something I would be very interested in. He stareted at the high school reporting level and worked his way up through universities and now is a beat writer for the New York Knicks. This position puts him in a primary role and earns him roles on ESPN.
Lynn Zinser, a female beat writer for the New York Times has overcome the gender bias surrounding sports writing. She has gave many inspiration through her valor and perserverance. I have learned that it is possible to overcome great odds to achieve what you want, even if its simply writing sports.

I'm thankful for...
Alex Henery,
The man of the day on Friday in Nebraksa. He led the Cornhuskers to a huge win over rival, Colorado in a packed Memorial stadium. His 57 yard boot gave him the school record for longest field goal. Putting him past legendary kickers such as and Josh and Kris Brown of the 90's. Without Henery a roller coaster season would have been tarnashed at the hands of a disgusting, inferior team like the Colorado Buffaloes. Bo's show was saved by Henery's toe.

BCS
Even after drubbing number two Texas Tech, the Oklahoma Sooners are still ranked behind rival, Texas. Texas lost to the very same Texas Tech team. Somo people say that since Oklahoma lost to Texas earlier this season, the rankings are justified. Wrongo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oklahoma has proven themselves against the best of competition. They've beat every worthy Big 12 opponent, besides Texas. They also boast a strong non-conference schedule. They conqurered Big East champion, Cincinatti and Top 20 ranked, TCU. They are the best team in the history of college football!

Hope
Hope is defined as the belief for a posititve outcome after an event. My hope is that the future of the Huskers is bright. The events that changed the whole program up were the firings of Steve Pederson and Bill Callahan. After their releases, a new hope was born from the hirings of Tom Osbourne and Bo Pelini. Their prescence has brought a new future to a state already enriched with tradition.

I believe in...
I believe in the rights of Americans. More specifically the right to select who we want to lead this country, a right that is lacking in many countries across the world. In 2008 we chose a candidate that will bring us change and will connect every race in the United States. This is an amazing feat after our nation has been divided by race for centuries. Our atrractedness to the word change has increased under the current administration. The next four years will be that of progress and re-evaluation.

Bo Pelini
Many opinions have been expressed about the antics of Nebraska head coach, Bo Pelini. He can be seen roaring at both players and assistant coaches on the sidline. The most recent game against Oklahoma, Pelini was observed howling at linebackers coach, Mike Ekeler. This action has been scrutinized by fans for being too wild and immature.
This personality is the reason he is such a good coach. He is able to motivate his team and will never let them quit. Which is something Bill Callahan was unable to do, let alone coach at all.

Quarter 1 Review
In the first quarter, I learned:
-The great articles paint a picture in the reader's mind.
-The most important part of an article is the lead and the hook.
-The importance of leg work.
-The more editing steps you go through, the better the paper will look.
-It is important to be consistent in your publication through grammar, fonts and styles.

Impossible Dream
It's late early January in Atlanta, Georgia. The streets buzz with anticipation. Every back alley and every cavity of brick buildings are swarmed by betters and bookies. People dressed in red horde sports bars and tailgate in parking lots. Its the National Championship game and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the favorite to win.

Chinese Olympics
The summer olympics are usually a place of happinness and celebration. The 2008 summer olympics were a far cry of that. China was chosen to host the olympics if they would promise to improve conditions in Beijing and re-evaluate their policies dealing with human rights. They failed to do that with air pollution peaking around the weeks of the games. Citizens' homes were destroyed to build the arenas. "Volunteer" audiences were forced to fill the seats of certain events to give a look of popularity among the people. Walls were placed in front of poor houses at marathon roads to hide poverty and the fireworks show was enhanced digitally. Altogether the purpose of the olympic games were relinquished for the sake of financial gain.

Obama vs. McCain questions
Both: In your opinion, what is the most important issue that the future president will have to deal with and how do you believe is the best way to deal with it?
Obama: How will you handle issues such as racism, which is a major factor in the deep south?
McCain: If Sarah Pallin poses a threat to your campaign, would you consider a firing?
